Ramsond 24,000 btu split frosting up

Kerry Netland Jan 07, 2014 05:40PM EST

We bought and installed the split into our new guesthouse in August 2013, so has been installed for a little over 4 months. We had it professionally installed. Worked great....until the outside temps dipped just below 32 degrees....within 24 hours the entire unit is iced and frosted over, with ice and frost extending well past the protective cage. Had to turn the unit off, let it defrost, then had our heating contractor that services the big heat pumps for the main house come and take a look....he ran a diagnostic, checked everything out and could find nothing wrong. As long as the temps are above freezing all is well. One night below and it is completely frosted up again. I thought, according to the manual, that the unit would run a defrost cycle when needed. Doesn't seem to be happening....what do we do????

Dear Customer

The unit does have a defrost cycle but the lowest temperature that this unit can operate is 15 degree Fahrenheit also when there is a lot of moisture in the air and the temperature is near or below freezing point the unit will still have hard defrosting the condenser coil and this is normal for those type of system
